Types of Prayer, Ways to Pray
There are many ways to pray and many types of prayer. Here a few to help you get started.
TYPES of prayer.
Praise and adoration -- recognizing who God is and celebrating His greatness.
Thanksgiving -- expressing gratitude for all things that come into our lives.
Confession -- admitting we have fallen short of our high calling.
Forgiveness -- accepting God’s grace for ourselves and being willing to forgive others.
Petition -- asking God to meet our personal needs and to grant us wisdom and guidance.
Intercession -- lifting the needs of others and the world to the throne of God.
WAYS to Pray
Conversationally --when in a group, pray together on a specific topic, each sharing their thoughts as in a conversation.
Silent Prayer -- pray silently focused together on a particular area, need or concern. Become quite and still, rest in God’s presence. We often need time to think before sharing our thoughts. When the group (or as an individual) we are quiet, we not only gather and focus our thoughts, we give God an oportunity to speak to us. Being a good listener is vital to the health of any relationship and developing our friendship with God is no different.
Meditation -- this is listening prayer. Listening to the Holy Spirit for insight on an area, scripture or subject for more understanding.
Visualizing -- using God’s great gift to us of imagination to dream and listen to God’s voice.
Touching -- calling God to touch another through you and your heart of prayer.
